   Exit the Balcksmith’s shop between 10am and 6pm on a Wednesday or Friday. While walking along the path you’ll come across a chicken that is escaping from Lillia’s farm. You catch the chicken as Popuri runs up to you and says she accidentally let the chicken get away. She thanks you for catching her chicken and then asks if you like chickens. If choose yes, then Popuri is happy and says that people who like chickens are good people.
   Purple Heart Event
   Popuri will one day come to your house in the morning. She’s interested in taking a tour of your farm. Tell her yes and the two of you will explore while she’ll comment on how nice everything is. The tour lasts until 1 pm, when Popuri leaves.
   Blue Heart Event
   Between 10am and 1pm, go to the Church on Sunday with the Large Rucksack, during any season but summer. You’ll find Carter, Popuri, Stu, and May. May wants to play house so Carter gets elected to be the dad and Popuri the mom. Carter declines, which annoys May, and then Stu decides he wants to play something else. Poor Carter looks distressed until he sees you walk in. Carter and Popuri ask if you will play with the kids instead of Carter. Agree to play with them and the 4 of you head up to the hot springs on Mother’s Hill to play “house”. Popuri pretends to be your wife while May welcomes her “daddy” home. Something that May says upsets Stu and he runs off crying. When the two kids leave Popuri thanks you for playing house with them and gives you some Mud Dumplings. You were pretending to play house after all, might as well have some mud food.
   Yellow Heart Event
   Visit the Poultry Farm between 10am and 1pm, during any season but the summer. All three family members are arguing in the kitchen. Rick calls his father irresponsible and says he’s upset their father would just leave them. Popuri is mad at her brother for saying such bad things about their father. Lillia then notices you walking in and apologizes for their bickering. Popuri is still upset with Rick, but Rick insists that his dad is still irresponsible. Lillia thinks they’re both wrong and asks what you think. You can choose that Popuri’s correct, Rick’s correct, or to say “poor Lillia”. If you express sympathy towards Lillia having to put up with her bickering kids, they’ll both realize how silly they’ve been and apologize to their mother. Your friendship will become better with all three of them.
   Rival
   Kai is a world traveller who sets up his Snack Shack on Mineral Beach during the summers. He and Rick deeply dislike each other, which only worsens once Popuri shows a romantic interest in him.
   Rival Black Heart Event
   During the summer, walk down to Mineral Beach between 3pm and 4pm on a sunny day. Kai has just finished giving Popuri some food. Kai says he knows about food from other towns because he travels in the winter to avoid the cold. Popuri wonders if her mom would feel better if she ate some of Kai’s foreign foods. Kai tells Popuri he’ll make her mom some as well.
   Rival Blue Heart Event
   During the summer , walk down to Mineral Beach between 9am and 7pm on a sunny Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday. Popuri and Kai will be there watching the waves. Popuri thanks Kai for the food, when Rick comes and interupts, demanding to know what Kai is doing with his sister. He orders her back to the farm. Popuri tells Rick that he needs to stop bothering Kai. Rick quiets down for a moment, but then starts again. Kai suggests that it might be a good time for Popuri to head back to the store. Popuri apologizes for her brother’s behavior and the two siblings walk home.
   Rival Green Heart Event
   During the summer season during the second year or later, go to Mineral Beach on a Sunday between 2pm and 4pm on a sunny day. Popuri and Kai are watching the waves from the dock. Popuri is trying to understand why her brother has a problem with her seeing Kai. Kai tries to convince her that it’s because he’s trying to protect her. Popuri then asks about Kai’s family. Kai explains that his parents treated him poorly and that he eventually left for good. He says it’s given him a lot of opportunities to explore other towns. Popuri mentions that she would like the same thing! Kai is skeptical and says her family is too nice to her for her to leave.
   Rival Orange Heart Event
   Go to the Polutry Farm shopbetween 11:30am and 4:00pm and you’ll find Popuri’s family and Kai inside. Kai says that he and Popuri plan on leaving the village. Rick asks Popuri if it’s true and she confirms it. Her brother gets upset and begins to yell at Kai. Popuri denies that Kai is a bad person and says it was all her idea! While the two bicker, Lillia pipes up and gives her permission.
   Rick is shocked, but Lillia says there’s no point in opposing since Popuri would leave anyway. She has a condition though; Kai has to keep Popuri happy forever! Lillia says that Kai doesn’t have to give her a reply right away. Kai says he’ll consider it and then leaves.

   Elli is the nurse at the local clinic. Her parents died several years ago, leaving Elli with the responsibility of raising her (at times) rambunctious little brother and her ailing grandmother. Despite this, she is kind and almost always cheerful, though even she will get rather upset if she’s pushed to it. Sometimes, her brother gives her a hard time, and he gets upset because she doesn’t always have time to spend with him. Still, Stu is very important to her, as is Ellen.
   Elli loves children, especially babies, since she aides in delivering babies at the clinic. Since she spends most of her time working at the clinic, she has developed a crush on her boss, the Doctor. However, her feelings go unrequited for a while.
   Location & Events
   If you go to the Hospital you’ll find Elli behind the reception counter. She wants to be a good nurse, so she helps the Doctor with anything medical. Elli also will sell you Bodigizer and Turbojolt potions, which you can use to regain your stamina or cook up for a more potent potion. You can have her sell the XL potions if you ship 50 Blue Grass and 50 Green Grass.
   When the Hospital is closed on Wednesdays, she goes to visit her grandmother Ellen and her little brother Stu. Elli’s parents both died a long time ago and it’s been up to her and Ellen to raise Stu. Elli loves them both very much.
   If you want to win Elli’s heart, you’re going to do battle with Doctor. Doctor is so serious in his work that he doesn’t even know that Elli has feelings for him. The two of them live together upstairs in the Clinic, in separate bedrooms of course. The Doctor’s rival events usually occur in the Clinic, so it’s inevitable that you’ll run into one or two.

   The following are the recipes given to you by the townspeople in conversation,
   as well as the transcripts of Anna’s Dessert Classes and transcripts of the
   Dueling Chefs programme on television.
   Originally, I thought that a resident often would give you a recipe the first
   time you give him/her a gift that he/she truly loves or on the occasion of
   his/her birthday. Now I think that the recipe is given after you have given
   the individual a certain number of gifts. I believe that the number could be
   as low as two, actually!

   Everything in this section has been taken from my character Aloysius’ journal,
   which is published on IGN as a FAQS file.

   Sandwiches (from Ellen)

   ‘What was it? Oh yeah, here goes. First, spread Butter on some Bread, then
   put on some cucumbers and tomatoes. Hard boiled egg is good, too. Elli tries
   out losts of new dishes on Stu, you know.

   Strawberry Milk (from Carter)

   ‘We have been blessed with a beautiful day. Then, ‘Let me tell you the recipe
   of something I often make for the kids. It’s easy, so you should be able to
   remember it. All you need to do is put Strawberries and Milk in a Mixer.
   It’s delicious. Sometimes I also put in Honey, Sugar and Salt.

   Sweet Potatoes (from Chef)

   ‘I’ll tell you how to make some delicious Sweet Potatos. Not even Doug at the
   Inn can make these, bubum! They’re our favourite dish at our Tea Parties,
   too. The ingredients are: Sweet Potatos, Eggs, Butter, and Sugar, bubum.
   (New name, I guess!) Mix these all in a Pot and then bake in an Oven. That’s
   all there is too it, bubum! It really doesn’t need anything else, either.
   Try it when you get home. I think you’ll like it, bubum!’ (What’s with the
   Bubum???)

   N.B. from Aloysius’ journal: Chef never called me ‘bubum’ again…
   always ‘budum’. Nor have I been served the famous Sweet Potatoes at any of
   the tea parties, only relaxation tea.

   Savoury Pancakes (from Gotz)

   ‘Do you like Savoury Pancakes? All you do is add the ingredients together and
   fry it up! All you need is… what was that again? Oh yeah, Flour and Eggs
   and … Cabbage! That’s it! Mix all that up real well, then put it in a
   Frying Pan with Oil. ‘Course, you gotta cut the Cabbage up with a Knife
   first.’ You can put lots of other stuff in too!’

   Pickled Turnip (from Saibara)

   ‘Thanks very much. You’re a generous man. You should eat simple foods, you
   know. You’ll live longer, like me. If you agree, I’ll tell you a great recipe
   for Pickled Turnip. It’s delicious. All you need is Turnip, Vinegar, and a
   Knife. A youngin’ like you might want to flavour it with Sugar, Salt and Soy
   Sauce.’

   Fruit Latte (from Basil)

   ‘I’ve been meaning to tell you this recipe… it’s for a delicious Fruit
   Latte. Take fruit like Pineapple, Apple, Wild Grape, or other fruit and put
   it in a Mixer with Milk. It also tastes excellent with Strawberry, Grape
   Juice or Honey.’

   Chocolate Cookies (from Sasha)

   ‘Well, what a considerate gentleman you are! How did you learn my birthday?
   You want to learn how to make some fabulous Chocolate Cookies? Jeff just
   loves this recipe. The ingredients are Flour, Butter, Eggs and Chocolate.
   You also need Sugar of course and Honey is optional. The only implements you
   need are a Rolling Pin and Oven. You can also get by with just Chocolate and
   Cookies, too.Karen likes liquor, but not sweets, you know.’

   Mixed Fruit and Vegetable Juices (from Doctor)

   ‘As thanks, I’ll teach you a great recipe for mixed fruit and vegetable
   juices. I don’t have anything to write it down on, but just remember it, OK?
   The ingredients you need are Strawberry, Pineapple, Grape, Carrot, Cucumber,
   Cabbage and Apple. If you forget any of these, the recipe won’t work. You
   need a Mixer and a Knife if you have one. If you add sugar and salt, it’ll
   taste better, too. You can add any other Fruit or Vegetable you wish. I hope
   you like it!’

   Scrambled Eggs (from Lillia)

   ‘Today is my birthday, you know. Thank you so much! How old do I look?…
   While I’m thinking of it, let me tell you the recipe for Scrambled Eggs. It’s
   easy. All you do is put Oil in a Frying Pan, then put in the Eggs. That’s
   it! But it won’t taste very good like that. Use a Whisk to fluff up the
   Eggs, or add Butter and Mayonnaise. Kids love it that way. Some people say
   you should only have one egg per day, but I say eat all you want! ‘

   Fried Noodles (from Zack)

   ‘I was going to tell you how to make some delicious fried noodles. All you do
   is put oil in a frying pan and fry the noodles. That’s it! You can even add
   Eggs or Vegetables to make it taste even better.’

   Ice Cream (from Barley)

   ‘You don’t have to curry favour with me, young man! Thanks, though. Want to
   learn how to make ice cream? May makes me make it for her all the time.
   All you need is Sugar, Milk, and Eggs, and of course a Whisk and a Pot. May
   loves it when I slice up Pineapple and Apple with my knife and add it in with
   Honey. Myself, I like it with Wild Grapes. You should give it a try!’

   Cheese Fondue (from Doug)

   ‘As a thanks, I’ll tell you the recipe to my famous Cheese Fondue. Have you
   heard of it? Don’t forget this now.
   The only ingredient is Cheese. Use a knife to cut it into bite size bits.All
   you need is a pot! If you want to make it even better, try adding Salt or
   Wine. You’ll love it!’

   N.B. from Aloysius’ journal: Very Important! Doug forgot to mention that you
   need BREAD for this!!! The recipe is fabulous, if you add Bread to the
   Ingredients as well. Without Bread, it simply DOES NOT WORK! Curious
   omission on his part. Perhaps he really does not want any one else to be able
   to make HIS Famous Cheese Fondue.

   Boiled Spinach (from Manna)
   Anyway, thanks very much. do you always give presents to the townspeople like
   if you’re going to give them to some, you have to give to everybody now. Not
   just the pretty girls, you hear? ! Ha ha! Anyway, thanks again!
   Do you cook? I’ll tell you a great recipe for Boiled Spinach? Don’t forget,
   now. All you have to do is boil Spinich in a pot and then put some Soy Sauce
   on top. It’s that simple. Are you sure you don’t need to write it down?
   Well, if you say so!

   Fried Rice (from Harris)

   ‘I bet you’re like I am: too busy to spend lots of time cooking. Well, here’s
   a really convenient recipe for Fried Rice. First, put some oil in a Frying
   Pan, then add Egg and Rice Ball. You can add other ingredients to taste, but
   be sure to dice them with your Knife first. Seasoning with Sugar, Salt, and
   Soy Sauce makes it tast even better!

   Popcorn (from Kai)

   ‘Gee… Thanks! You’re the only guy who’s ever nice to me you know. You want
   to learn how to make popcorn?
   If you want, I’ll tell you.
   Don’t forget, now!
   All you need is corn and a Frying Pan, although it tastes better with Salt or
   Butter on top.’

   And the winner is… a Tie!
   Chef’s A will recuperate Fatigue more but Chef B’s recipe will recover Stamina
   more.

   Note from Aloysius’ Journal:

   Why did I find this interesting? Well, it appears to me that the difference
   between the two recipes is Honey in one and Sugar and Salt in the other. As
   the recipe with the honey recuperates Fatigue and the recipe with the Sugar
   and the Salt recovers Stamina, that means that Honey=FR and Sugar, Salt= SR

   So I went to my kitchen and created my own recipe, after a bit of
   experimentation which is:
   Ingredients: Wild Grape
   Honey
   Utensil: Mixer
   Seasonings: Salt, Sugar

   This gives improved Fatigue Recuperation and Stamina Recovery and is better
   than both Chef A’s and Chef B’s recipes.

   I should imagine then that the addition of Honey to any recipe, if it works,
   adds Fatigue recuperation and the addition of Salt and/or Sugar to any recipe,
   if it works, will add Stamina Recovery.

   Go to the Supermarket on Wednesday or Friday between 10am and 1pm with an empty slot in the Tools section of your rucksack. Once you enter the store, Karen will greet you. She knows you just started working on the farm and you might need a lot of new supplies. If you tell her you need help, she’ll ask her dad if they can supply you with a bag of seeds. After a while, Jeff agrees to hand out a bag of Grass Seeds for free.
   Purple Heart Event
   Go to the Supermarket between 10am and 1pm. Karen and Sasha are arguing. Both of them are acting very defensively towards Jeff, who’s trying to find a middle solution. Karen notices you walking in and asks for your opinion. A family member is sick and they want to send her seeds to help her feel better. Sasha says they should send Pink Cat seeds and Karen says they should send Moon Drop seeds. If you agree with Karen then her friendship level with you will increase.
   Blue Heart Event
   Go to the Supermarket between 10am and 1pm. Jeff, Sasha, Karen, and Duke are talking. Karen asks if what Duke has said is true and says how happy she is, then thanks her parents. Apparently, when Karen was born, Jeff had asked Duke to make some special wine and now Duke’s come by to let them know it’s ready to be picked up. Jeff asks if you would like to go with her.
   If you agree, you will head back to the winery with Karen and Duke. Duke pokes around in the basement and eventually find the wine that labeled “Karen”. She thanks him but before she leaves, Duke says there’s more wine. Apparently Jeff was so happy about the birth of his daughter, he ordered Duke to make 3 cases of wine. Karen asks if you’ll help them take it all back to the store. After you return, Karen says she’s tired but thanks you for your help with one of the bottles of wine.
   Yellow Heart Event
   Go to the Supermarket on Monday, Thursday, or Saturday between 10am and 1pm. Karen has been cooking in in the backroom. She walks out and tells her parents that she’s confident she was successful this time. Sasha and Jeff chuckle nervously and then agree. Karen then asks her parents if they would like to have a taste. Jeff’s stomach problems “suddenly” acts-up again and he can’t eat her food, but neither he nor Sasha want to hurt their daughter’s feelings. Karen then sees you walk in and the three of them are happy to see you’ve arrived. Jeff then volunteers you to taste Karen’s cooking. If you agree then you’ll follow Karen back into the kitchen while Jeff and Sasha stay in the store and apologize in advance for the later suffering.
   Back in the kitchen Karen tells you to hurry and eat. Reluctantly, you take the food and eat it. Then you pass out. You’ll wake up in the Hospital. Doc asks if you’re all right, then asks Karen what might have caused you to pass out. Karen thinks you might have been tired but Doc doesn’t believe that is the case. Karen doesn’t realize what she’s done and just advises you to breathe while you eat next time.
   Rival
   Rick lives at the Poultry Farm with his little sister Popuri and his sickly mother, Lilia. He and Karen have been close friends since childhood, although the two occasionally bicker.
   Rival Black Heart Event
   Leave the Spring Mine on a sunny Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday between 11:00 am and 6:00 pm. Outside you’ll find Karen and Rick. Karen asks if Rick has heard from his dad recently. Rick is disappointed that he hasn’t and doesn’t understand how his dad could just leave his mom like that. Karen sticks up for Rick’s dad and reminds Rick that he is out searching for a cure for his wife because he’s trying to protect his family. Rick realizes she’s right and the two of them decide to take care of things while his dad is away.
   Rival Blue Heart Event
   Walk out of Gotz’s house on a sunny Sunday or Monday between the hours of 11am and 6pm in any season except Spring. Karen and Rick will be recalling the games they played together when they were children. Rick reminded her that she always beat him in wrestling. Karen denies the event ever took place, even though Rick told her that he use to cry when she threw him on the ground. Karen becomes very irritated at Rick, says she doesn’t remember any of it, and walks off. Rick is left to ponder what just occurred.
   Rival Green Heart Event
   Exit the Spring Mine between the hours of 11am and 6pm on a sunny Wednesday or Friday in the second year. You’ll find Karen, angry at Rick because he fought off a dog that had attacked her and had been injured. Rick’s glad that he wasn’t hurt worse than he was, but that doesn’t reassure Karen. Finally, she swallows her pride and thanks Rick for helping her.
   Rival Orange Heart Event
   Exit the Poultry Farm shop between 1pm and 4pm on Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday in the fourth year. Popuri must be married (to Kai or yourself). As you leave the farm house, you’ll see Karen and Rick talking to each other by the grain mill. Karen says that Lillia is beginning to look a little bit healthier. Rick replies that he is glad when Lillia walks up to them and asks Karen how she is doing. Karen repeats that she hears that Lillia is feeling better. Lillia says that there is only one thing that worries her and that’s the relationship between Rick and Karen! She asks when the two of them are going to get married. Rick panics, but Lillia tells him that they have always liked each other and there’s no point in hiding it. She leaves couple blushing behind her.

   Mary helps out at her home until 10 am, when she opens the library. She will be there until 6 pm, when she returns home. On Mondays, the library is closed, and she goes with her parents to the mountain to gather herbs in the morning and goes grocery shopping with her mother in the afternoon. Later, she can be found with Gray in the blacksmith’s shop before she returns home. If Gray and Mary become husband and wife, the library will be closed on Thursdays as well as Mondays.

After she realizes what happened, she thanks you for coming to the library. If you ask her how you can help, she explains that she’s been working on a new book and had a small case of writer’s block.
   Purple Heart Event
   Visit the library on Thursday, Saturday, or Sunday between 10 am and 4 pm. Mary will be searching the bookcases for something when you come in and startle her again. She asks what you need but after she realizes you saw her search she tells you that one of her novels went missing. Agree to help her look and you’ll start searching the bookcases. After a bit Mary will ask if you’re found anything yet, but you have not. You continue searching until you find the novel in the next set of bookcases. Mary is very grateful for your help.
   Blue Heart Event
   Walk up to the summit of Mother’s Hill on Monday between 12pm and 5pm with an empty slot in your inventory. At the top you’ll find Mary, but it looks like she’s been crying. When you try to comfort her, she says that she was cleaning and found a book. She wanted to read it at a place with a nice view, and that’s why she’s at the top of the hill. Mary asks if you ever cry when reading a really good book. If you tell her “sometimes”, she’ll tell you she likes people who respond well to books. Mary then gives you the book she had been reading.
   Yellow Heart Event
   If you go to Basil’s house on Monday between 10am and 1pm, you’ll find Mary’s parents, who appear to be concerned about something. Mary seems to be very upset over something. The two of them are pondering what to do when you arrive. They know you and Mary are friends so they ask you to talk to her on the second floor and find out what’s wrong. Upstairs, Mary guesses that her father sent you up to talk to her. She’s really not upset and realizes there was a misunderstanding. The two of you then go downstairs to explain that Mary was just brainstorming to find a topic for her new novel.
   Basil asks if you would have an idea as to what it should be. You can choose from “you don’t know”, working on the farm, or Basil’s work. If you tell them to make the novel about working on the farm, they all think it’s a good idea. Mary asks if you would spend an hour explaining how farm life is. The “interview” actually ended up being longer then expected so Mary apologizes. Then she thanks you for the time you’ve spent with her. When you return back outside it’ll be 6pm.
   Rival
   Your rival for Mary’s affection is Gray, the apprentice blacksmith. The two become close friends through a love of books and a shared sensitivity.

   I once read a book about “Harvest Moon” that is if one day we cut down trees “cheddar”, chedar tree would say to do the cutting and if we keep to not cut down the tree “ceddar” it will give the “power berry”
